Ohio University leaders were reportedly considering the creation of a workout room that would be designated for minority students, although a campus official has since clarified the room would be open to all students.
The original suggestion was one of at least three ideas proposed by a campus diversity leader as she and student leaders brainstorm plans to redevelop a portion of largely unused racquetball courts at the public institution.
Gigi Secuban, who took the helm over the summer as the university’s first-ever vice president of diversity and inclusion, reportedly made the suggestion at a recent student senate meeting.
“Secuban mentioned a plan to turn one of the racquetball courts at Ping Recreation Center into a private workout room for minorities, sexual assault survivors, or people with special religious accommodations,” The New Political student news outlet reported.
White South African men are reportedly being excluded from a government-partnered youth employment initiative program, according to a new report.
The Youth Employment Service (“YES”) government job website has the goal of helping South Africans who have been unemployed for more than six months. The program has been endorsed by the National Development Plan 2030, which intends on eliminating poverty and reducing inequality within the next 12 years in the country.
The website reportedly requires applicants to be in accordance with the Black Economic Empowerment (“BEE”) definition of black. They are also required to be between the ages of 18 and 34 and citizens of South Africa.
BEE is a program launched by the South African government whose aim is redressing inequalities in the nation by giving South African citizens who are black economic privileges that are not available to white people. The program also includes colored and Indian people.
The YES website states:
“YES is a business-driven initiative which is breaking new ground by pioneering a partnership with government and labor, in collectively tackling a national plan to build economic pathways for black youth. Please note we are currently only registering candidates between the ages of 18 and 34, who are currently unemployed and must be black (as per the B-BBEE codes definition).”
YES was the brainchild of South African president Cyril Ramaphosa. In March, he boasted about the idea, stating “we will be coming up with further initiatives to address youth unemployment.” However, South Africa’s trade union, called “Solidarity”, stated that white South Africans were “unwelcome”, while calling the exclusion “part of a long list of policies obsessed with race.”
Paul Maritz, coordinator of Solidarity Youth, told RT: “It is as if the President is saying to white candidates: ‘You are unwelcome and on your own!”
Maritz noted that unemployment is an issue of importance in South Africa, but that making decisions based on race has become a dangerous norm.
In late summer, we continued highlighting the growing tension between President Ramaphosa and white farmers who, under threat of having their land taken and repurposed, were digging their heels in, stating that they would defend their properties by force, if necessary. We looked at whether or not a coming civil race war in South Africa was an inevitability at this point.
In early September, we followed up, taking a closer look as to whether or not there was a plan in effect for the government to simply take white farms and “eliminate” white farmers by whatever means necessary. For now the market is giving Ramaphosa the benefit of the doubt.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) spoke to the Daily Beast following disappointing election results for Democrats in Georgia and Florida, particularly for African-American candidates for governor in each state.
The results of both races may still be in question Thursday, depending on final vote tallies and the potential for a recount, but had Stacey Abrams won in Georgia she would have become the nation’s first female African-American governor. In Florida, Gillum would have become the first African-American governor in the state’s history.
Sanders, a strong advocate for Abrams and Gillum, told the Daily Beast that he believed their race played a factor in their potential losses.
“I think you know there are a lot of white folks out there who are not necessarily racist who felt uncomfortable for the first time in their lives about whether or not they wanted to vote for an African-American,” Sanders told The Daily Beast, referencing the close contests involving Andrew Gillum in Florida and Stacey Abrams in Georgia. “I think next time around by the way it will be a lot easier for them to do that.”
But it’s not immediately clear what Sanders is talking about. In Florida, white voters came out for Barack Obama in huge numbers in 2008 and 2012. Nearly 4.3 million Floridians voted for Obama in Florida in 2008, besting Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) by more than 200,000 votes. In 2012, Obama earned just about 50,000 fewer votes than in 2008, carrying the state over Mitt Romney.
Political losers often struggle in the days and weeks after an unexpected or less-than-ideal election result to make sense of what happened. But Sanders’ decision to immediately blame white racism for African-American losses in 2018 appears to be factually inaccurate, based on Obama’s success in Florida, and just bad spin.
But it also might serve to remind some Democrats, particularly 2016 Clinton voters, about Sanders’ perceived slights to Obama. The Clinton campaign tried to play up Sanders’ differences with Obama during the presidential primary to varied success. His erasure of Obama from the history books in the aftermath of the 2018 midterms could feel like one more subtle criticism to some Democrats.
Flyers reading, “It’s okay to be white,” invaded safe spaces across the world this week, triggering virtue signaling liberals into frantic breakdowns.
The covert campaign, coordinated mainly on the website 4chan, involved posting sheets of papers reading, “It’s okay to be white,” in an effort to bring awareness to the racist double standard white people face every day.
In the wake of the postings, numerous media reports struggled to describe the campaign, with some calling it the work of neo-nazis, “covert racism,” and “white supremacist.”
Other media outlets went as far as to claim that posting the signs is illegal, while some warned removing the signs could be dangerous.
In the US, posters reportedly hit Boston, North Carolina, Delaware and Texas, where residents in Fort Worth were told to call police if they witness the sign.
“I condemn any type of literature sign that is posted that may be offensive to some folks,” Fort Worth City Councilman Cary Moon said, advising residents that taking down the signs “might interfere with investigations and collection of evidence,” according to CBS DFW.
Elsewhere in the globe, “It’s ok to be white” posters were reportedly seen in severalCanadianprovinces, the UK, and Australia.
One man in Halifax, Canada, reported seeing a “group of 4 in black hoodies and white masks” posting the signs in the downtown area, which he says he tore down.

Signs also showed up outside the offices of two parliament members in South Australia, prompting South Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young to denounce the “pro-nazi slogans.”
“Whoever this moron is this [sic] should be named and shamed,” Hanson-Young wrote on twitter.

South Australian police say they are investigating “the motivation and intent of the persons posting the signs,” adding that they could be fined for littering.
“When the person/s responsible for posting the signs are identified and located they can be issued with a $315 fine plus $60 victims of crime levy for the offence of post bill without consent under section 23(1) of the Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act 2016,” a South Australian police spokesman said, according to The Advertiser.
SA Police also claimed there were rumors on social media that razorblades could be affixed to the posters and warned people to report the signs to police rather than remove them.
The posters appear to be a continuation of a similar campaign launched by 4chan last year, which had equally triggering results.
